Degree Program Highlights
The Anthropology of Religion program is a humanities-based interdisciplinary Master's degree program providing students with an opportunity to examine religious beliefs and practices across cultures and investigate what it means to a member of a faith community in terms of culture, practice, and ideas. Students will gain a foundation in the precepts, history, and cultures of various religions.
The Christian message is always embedded in particular cultural and historical contexts and in order to be communicated effectively, it needs to be “translated” into the notions and perspectives of those who may receive it. Therefore, anthropological knowledge is one of the basic tools not only of a well-prepared intercultural missionary but also any Christian who desires to serve among people who come from cultural traditions other than his or her own.
