Degree Program Highlights

The Master of Intercultural Studies in Mission Studies program is a humanities-based interdisciplinary, degree program preparing students to go individually and with a team to share the gospel and make disciples of all nations. The courses help students focus on living in another culture in order to be an incarnational witness.

 

Discovering new ways to share the gospel in home and host cultures among a wide variety of people groups and languages will be one of the most important missional tasks until Christ returns. Mission Studies not only helps students have a biblical understanding of making disciples but also introduces new and innovative ways for making disciples that make disciples in a variety of cultures. From the time of the New Testament, believers have taken the gospel to places where people have never heard the name of Jesus. Research shows us that prepared missional leaders not only stay in other cultural settings for longer time periods, but also have more meaningful service in those settings.

Choose a Specialization in Global Cultures

Mission always occurs in a cultural context. The programs "in Global Cultures" are designed to enable the student to reflect on the "where" and the "with whom" related to their academic discipline. Below are nine very specific sociocultural contexts -- all with an overlay of the spiritual dimension. These cultures may found all over the globe but are predominant in specific geographical regions.

The "in Global Culture" specialization allows you to enhance your degree program to be better prepared to serve in the location to which you have been called. Students have the opportunity to include one specialization from the list below. Or, students may choose a program-related specialization (see the Specialization tab above for details).

Choose Experiential Learning Opportunities

It is one thing to learn information, theories, and methodologies, but it is quite another to synthesize and apply what is learned to specific situations. However, the degree programs at Missional University incorporate specific experiential learning opportunities to bridge this gap. Students are able to customize their master degree programs with practicums, internships, mentorships, research, projects and thesis.

Missional University has a growing list of missional partners who facilitate experiential learning opportunities around the world. In addition, a faculty member of the School of Experiential Learning will work with you in developing the best location and mission entity, nonprofit or NGO, school, church, or church group to further the goals of the student.
