The Graduate Certificate in Immigration Legal Services Management is a humanities-based interdisciplinary Certificate program providing students the training to be accredited by the Office of Legal Access Programs, U.S. Department of Justice, to prepare immigration documents and represent non-citizens. The Master's level program is designed for students preparing to lead or start a center. Students will learn the essential skills for leading a successful center and obtaining (or maintaining) accreditation. Students who complete the basic immigration law training can only practice immigration law under the supervision of an attorney or in an accredited center that serves low income clients.

What Will I Study?
We offer the most comprehensive approach to serving the legal issues of immigrants & refugees in the mission of God.
Examines and analyzes the historical phenomenon of global people migration from a biblical theological perspective. The student will explore a variety of anthropological, biblical, contextual, political, sociological, theological issues, leading to a theology for missionally engaging the people of the contemporary Diaspora.
Principles of creating and managing an immigration legal services ministry to serve low-income clients. Includes strategic planning, identifying a market, engaging financial support, creating a non-profit entity and board, managing key functions, staffing and supervising, promoting services, building relationships with immigrant communities, and applying for BIA accreditation.
Analysis and evaluation of immigration procedure and law, including an examination of family visas, specialized visas, asylum, waivers, deportability, inadmissibility, naturalization, research, writing, citizenship, and ethics. Designed to meet the training requirements for individuals seeking accreditation by the US Board of Immigration Appeals to serve in BIA-recognized legal service centers.
A general introduction to common legal vocabulary involved in broad, general principles of substantive and procedural law with particular attention to immigration legal proceedings and communication with a focus on meaning and correct usage. Attention to explaining and restating legal vocabulary in lay terms and to explaining American legal terms to individuals from other cultures.
Through the use of landmark case law and salient examples from recent immigration reform, this course provides an advanced study of the immigration, nationality, and naturalization laws of the United States. Students will investigate and analyze policy issues relating to migration, refugees, asylum, deportation, and citizenship issues.
Advanced policies, methods, skills and trends in the business of delivering legal services. Includes finance, technology, ethical duties, management principles, creating a business plan, client development, marketing, and other essentials to lead an efficient and ethical legal service ministry. Attention to best practices and trends on the professional horizon.
