STOCKS, BONDS & MUTUAL FUNDS

When making a gift of appreciated stock, bonds or stock options, you pay no tax on the capital gains, and you can earn a charitable deduction for the fair-market value of the contribution up to a 30 percent limit of your adjusted gross income. Any excess deduction can be carried over for up to five years. If you sell appreciated stock to make a gift to the University, you will have to pay tax on the capital gains. If stock is held in a brokerage account, the stock may simply be transferred. To transfer stock via your broker to Missional University, please call the Advancement Office at 803-618-1328, ext. 150.

Physical Transfer of Stocks

If you physically hold the shares, the University needs to receive the stock certificate and a stock power. This stock power must include a guaranteed signature and should, for security reasons, be sent in a separate envelope from the actual certificate. Both items should be sent to Missional University, Office of Advancement, Attn: Keith Barrows, P.O. Box 6752, North Augusta, South Carolina 29861.

Please note: Gifts of securities are credited at market value on the date the University gains control of the assets.

PAYROLL DEDUCTION CARD

As a Missional University employee, payroll deductions are the easiest way to contribute to your area of passion on campus. You simply select the gift amount that you’d like deducted from your monthly paycheck, and your gift is automatically credited to the receiving account. Please send completed and signed Payroll Deduction Form to Gift Administration, advancement@missional.university.

GIFTS-IN-KIND

Gifts of tangible personal property (for example: equipment, artwork or books) that are donated for educational purposes are recorded at their fair market value. Gifts-in-kind valued in excess of $500 should be accompanied by a deed of gift and the fair market value as determined by the donor. The IRS and the University require that gifts-in-kind valued at more than $5,000 also have a certified, independent appraisal provided by the donor.

If you are interested in making a gift-in-kind, please contact the Office of Development at advancement@missional.university.

TRUST AND ESTATE GIFTS

Planning a gift through your estate may enable you to make a more significant gift than you thought possible. Trustee and Estate Gifts simultaneously allow you to achieve your financial, philanthropic, and estate planning goals benefiting an area of your choosing. The Missional University Foundation offers a variety of legacy gift options. If you have further questions, please contact the Missional University Foundation at advancement@missional.university.

RETIREMENT PLANS

Donors aged 70 ½ or older may make a transfer of up to $100,000 to Missional University from a traditional or Roth IRA, free from income tax each year and with possible state income tax savings. Amounts gifted in this way count toward the required IRA minimum withdrawal amounts for the year of the gift, and can be an easy way to make annual gifts to Missional University. To make this contribution, simply have the amount distributed directly from an IRA to Missional University. You will not incur any tax penalties, nor will you receive a charitable income tax deduction. Please consult with your professional advisory for additional details and call our Office of Development at 803-618-1328 ext 150 with any questions.

MAXIMIZING YOUR INVESTMENT

PLEDGE

A pledge allows you to promise a gift and make payments towards that pledge over time (for a period of up to 5 years). Pledges are typically made with a preliminary “first installment” gift and provide a source of consistent and dependable funding for the University.

MATCHING GIFTS

One of the easiest ways to augment the impact of your gift is to request a match from your employer. It is a simple and effective way to make a huge difference.
