About the Department
Advances in film and theatre have brought great possibilities for spreading the good news of Jesus. Students with this degree will be highly trained for professional film and theatre production. Learning from experienced and involved professors, they will acquire skills in creating film and theatre drama and story-telling to communicate the good news and make disciples, with special attention to thinking missionally in a global setting. They will also learn how to stay current in their field of expertise.
Areas of Study
The Department of Film and Theatre Studies offers undergraduate and graduate degrees in a variety of areas:
Scriptwriting, Storytelling & Ethnotheatre: prepares students to creatively and professionally write scripts, tell stories and produce dramas that facilitate healing, discipleship, and missional advance of the gospel of Jesus across cultures.
Learning Outcomes
Students who successfully complete the programs in the Department of Film & Theatre Studies are able to do the following:
- Create scripts or films, or direct and produce dramas for television, internet and film.
- Critically analyze the history and current state of affairs in the film industry, both Christian and secular.
- Use audio-visual technology to produce special effects that enhance film and television production.
- Articulate a biblical foundation for using film and theatre in the cause of missional life.
