Welcome
The Department of Missional Living is grounded in the biblical conviction that the disciple of Jesus has the privilege and the responsibility to live out the Great Commission and the Great Commandment in every aspect of life. Graduates will discover how the transcultural gospel can direct, shape, and drive their involvement in the marketplace, in the arts, in sports, in the military, and in the relationships of life, leading them to be equipped to fulfill their missional calling in whatever context and community they are called.
Why Missional Living?
Too often followers of Jesus misapply the biblical call to be holy or separate from the world as one of absolute withdrawal from culture and society. The Department of Missional Living is convinced that the call is to be both holy and salt and light in every aspect of human life. The Department, therefore, rejects a hard division between the sacred and the secular. Rather, we believe that the missio Dei is best expressed by living missionally to and within all domains of culture and society.
The Department of Missional Living challenges students to explore, understand, and evaluate the life and work contexts in which they live, work, and play. Graduates are able to biblically, theologically, and practically develop, model, and teach missional life and engagement that is both faithful to God’s word and fruitful in outcome.
Why Missional University?
Studies in Missional Living at Missional University are based on the six core values of the University:
Biblically Based:
The Department assumes and builds on a faithful reading and application of the biblical text, which is the foundation for the call to missional living.
Missionally Driven:
Our concern is not to simply deal in the abstract and develop paper strategies, but to lead the student to implement contextually appropriate, incarnational, missional living strategies.
Interculturally Focused:
God’s call to missional living is to all cultures and out of all cultures. The Department of Missional Living is grounded in the belief that God’s mission requires intercultural engagement and an intercultural goal.
Contextually Informed:
The Department is driven by the conviction that culture and context matter. Such global diversity is assumed and welcomed. It is also an integral part of the development and implementation of missional living because our confidence is in the ability of the gospel to transform every person and every domain of culture.
Practically Minded:
The goal of the Department of Missional Living is transformation and fruitfulness in students’ lives. Students will be challenged and taught to take what they have learned and apply it in their families and in their respective vocations and ministries.
Experientially Transformed:
The study of missional living will not be a mere intellectual or academic exercise. These will, rather, thoroughly engage the student for both personal transformation and ministry effectiveness through opportunities for reflection and the theological analysis and evaluation of life and ministry.
