Welcome
The Department of Environmental Law & Justice provides a comprehensive curriculum that equips students with a solid foundation for challenging environmental risks and proposes sustainable and equitable solutions. This program fosters a harmonious balance between academic preparation, practical application, and the spiritual growth necessary for a successful career within this field of study.
Why Environmental Law & Justice Studies?
Marginalized communities, including low-income neighborhoods and communities of color, have historically faced environmental hazards, pollution, and lack of access to environmental resources. The Department of Environmental Law & Justice recognizes these shortcomings and seeks to offer students a variety of coursework that establishes a legal frame that promotes impartial environmental benefits to all persons.
Why Missional University?
The Environmental Law & Justice Studies at Missional University are based on six core values:
Biblically Based:
The Environmental Law & Justice Studies program prepares students to integrate environmental law principles with their Christian beliefs in real-world situations that involve harmful conditions. By emphasizing the intersection of faith, justice, and environmental stewardship, the program equips students with a holistic understanding of issues and ethical responsibilities associated with resolving them.
Missionally Driven:
The Environmental Law & Justice Studies program is firmly rooted in the mission of God. It places significant emphasis on students going beyond the parameters of the traditional church settings and actively engaging with environmental issues in the broader context of society.
Interculturally Focused:
The Environmental Law & Justice Studies program aims to empower students to address environmental inequalities by advocating for equal protection and justice for individuals, regardless of their ethnic and socio-economic backgrounds.
Contextually Informed:
The Environmental Law & Justice Studies program leverages theories, statutes, policies, and practices to foster critical thinking skills in students. These skills enable students to collaborate with others in translating ideas into practical applications that promote equitable environmental solutions.
Practically Minded:
The Environmental Law & Justice Studies program challenges students to think critically by immersing them in complex environmental phenomena that pose risks to human rights and public safety. Through rigorous academic activities, students delve into complex problems, analyze ecological issues, and carefully examine the ethical dilemmas entwined within the complexities of the criminal justice system.
Experientially Transformed:
The Environmental Law & Justice Studies program integrates environmental law, theoretical concepts, and hands-on experience to cultivate the analytical and problem-solving skills necessary to address complex environmental issues. By combining academic knowledge with hands-on learning opportunities, students develop a well-rounded understanding of environmental law and justice challenges and intricacies.
