About the Department
The Department of Pastoral Care and Chaplaincy prepares graduates to meet the pastoral care needs of prisoners, members of the Armed Services, those stricken by illness or disaster, and others.
The courses lead the student to a comprehensive understanding of the theory and practice of pastoral care.
Faculty members teach students both the biblical basis of pastoral care and its practical application on the strength of their own academic study and practical training. Faculty members also rely on their own extensive experience of providing pastoral care to diverse people in various contexts.

Learning Outcomes
Students who successfully complete the programs in the Department of Pastoral Care and Chaplaincy are able to do the following:
- Articulate a biblical perspective of pastoral care.
- Demonstrate a basic knowledge of the methods, theories, and concepts of pastoral care in the context in which it is practiced.
- Demonstrate an understanding of how to provide pastoral care to diverse populations.
- Demonstrate an understanding of the role of chaplains and caregivers in pastoral care
- Demonstrate skill in the use the techniques and skills required for effective pastoral care.
