About the Department
The Department of Criminal Justice & Public Safety equips students to understand and address some of the most pertinent issues of our time—from social inequality and global interdependence to public safety, community development, immigration, and many others. Criminal Justice & Public Safety teaching and research scholarship is on these issues and much more. Teaching and studying the issues involves drawing on social and criminal justice theories, applying valid and reliable research methodologies, and using social statistics to analyze the research data. For Missional University, a liberal arts Christian institution, the faculty integrate their faith into their teaching and research scholarship.
Our faculty bring into their classes a wealth of experience and a global perspective. Our classes allow faculty to give personal attention to each student. Our students will have an oppurtunity to volunteer at various agencies, and obtain internships in both secular and religious organizations throughout the globe. Upon graduation,MU students will be able to go on to pursue meaningful careers and further study.
Areas of Study
A degree in Criminal Justice will not only teach you about criminology, criminal law, juvenile delinquency, forensics, criminal investigation and social deviance, it will also prepare you for law school or entry-level work in the field.
Learning Outcomes
The Criminal Justice & Public Safety Program at Missional University prepares graduates for competent service within the criminal justice field and for success in further study. Utilizing a missional perspective, students are given tools to practice in a broad spectrum of employment within the field to include law enforcement, corrections, investigations, and juvenile justice and probation and parole systems. A basic level of competency will be demonstrated by:
- Equipping students with knowledge and understanding of the history and operation of various Components in the criminal justice system.
- Preparing students to think critically and develop an understanding of the various criminological theories.
- Equipping students with the knowledge and skills to competently apply principles of criminal Investigation.
- Preparing students to demonstrate an Understanding Of concepts and theories of police Administration.
- Developing within students the understanding and application of significant law enforcement
- Equipping students with knowledge and history of state and federal laws.
- Prepare students to function competently and ethically within a criminal justice setting. 8. Preparing students to work in the criminal justice field using a Christian world view as their Lens.
