Forms and Functions of Chaplaincy

Equipping Ministers for Missio Dei in Secular Spaces

The Chaplaincy Microcredential uniquely prepares believers to embody the missio Dei—God’s redemptive mission—beyond traditional church walls. In hospitals, military bases, workplaces, prisons, and crisis settings, chaplains serve as Christ’s ambassadors where conventional pastoral ministry cannot reach, offering gospel-centered presence amid suffering and secular environments.

Learn the essential foundations: historical roots, legal parameters, and current issues in chaplaincy, enabling participants to minister confidently and legally in pluralistic settings. The microcredential fosters deep self-awareness, teaching students to become non-anxious, Christ-reflecting presences during crises while avoiding burnout and self-validating ministry.

This microcredential is vital because effective chaplaincy demands both theological clarity and emotional maturity to point hurting people to Jesus without agenda or coercion. Graduates gain lifelong skills for sustainable, incarnational ministry that advances God’s mission in society’s most broken places.
