Bachelor of Intercultural Studies
in TESOL / TEFL & Linguistics

The TESOL / TEFL & Linguistics major is a humanities-based interdisciplinary Bachelor completion program providing students the training to Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) or Teach English as a Foreign Language (TEFL).

 


Why TESOL / TEFL & Linguistics?

The US Bureau of Labor Statistics reports that demand for many types of adult education teachers is going to increase by 9 percent by 2022. The growth will be more pronounced for TESOL teachers specifically. There are now teaching jobs available not just in the US at schools, but at businesses and schools around the globe. Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) provides many opportunities for missional leaders to serve internationals, immigrants and refugees.

Admissions Requirement

Applicants must provide an official college transcript showing either a completed Associates degree program or a minimum of 45 credit hours of undergraduate courses taken at a regionally or nationally accredited college or university.  The student must have completed all of the general education requirements at Missional University in order to be admitted into any Bachelor completion program.

TESOL / TEFL & Linguistics Elective Requirements:  12 Credit Hours

Students enrolled in the BIS in TESOL/TEFL & Linguistics are required to successfully complete 12 credit hours of elective credit (equivalent to four courses).  This elective requirement may be fulfilled by any one of the following:

  • Optional Concentration 
  • Elective credits from any of the concentrations
  • Extended Study Beyond Internship 
  • Bachelor Thesis

Bachelor Thesis Requirements:  12 Credit Hours

Students enrolled in the BIS in TESOL/TEFL & Linguistics degree program may choose to complete a Bachelor Thesis on a topic related to Diaspora Studies.
